Few people truly enjoy cleaning, and the bathroom is the area that most people are most reluctant to scrub. But there are a few simple cleaning hacks that will both make the process a lot quicker and will leave your surfaces gleaming.

Cleaning The Shower

Even if you clean your shower regularly, limescale deposits will still build up over time. This is particularly true if you live in an area affected by hard water.

To make your shower head look like new, with minimal effort, fill a plastic sandwich bag with one part white vinegar to one part water. Unhook the shower head from its holder and submerge it in the bag of vinegar, and then seal the bag shut with a twist tie. Leave it for between thirty minutes and two hours, before undoing the bag and allowing the shower to run for a couple of minutes. The limescale will disappear without the need for scrubbing!

Another problematic area in the shower is the glass, which can develop smears even after being wiped with a commercial cleaner. For a quick and easy solution, fill an empty spray bottle with one part vinegar to one part water, then add a couple of tablespoons of dish soap. Shake thoroughly and liberally spray the glass. After a couple of minutes, wipe the surface clean with a damp microfiber cloth.

Finally, keep your drains clean and unclogged by pouring a cup of white vinegar into the drain. Follow this up with a generous sprinkling of baking soda and allow to fizz for ten minutes, before rinsing the area with boiling water. This approach also works for cleaning the drain in your sink.

Make Your Faucets Shine

The method for cleaning your shower head also works for faucets. However, some people find it easier to soak cotton balls in white vinegar and attach them to the affected area with saran wrap. Leave for around half an hour and remove the cotton balls, to reveal faucets that look like new again.

If your faucets are made from chrome, there are a couple of common household items which can be used to restore their natural gleam. Rub either undiluted dish soap or shaving cream into the chrome, and then scrub gently with a damp cloth.

Restore The Whiteness Of Grout

Grout tends to yellow over time, and may even develop mildew. To tackle this problem, mix water and bleach in a spray bottle and dampen all affected areas. This should be left to dry before you rinse the area with warm water. Difficult spots can be cleaned with a toothbrush and bleach.

Tackle The Toilet Bowl

When scientists investigated levels of germs and bacteria in the home, they found that the toilet is one of the cleanest areas because it is regularly cleaned. But that doesn’t mean that people want to get up too close and personal with their toilet bowl.

To get your toilet bowl perfectly clean with minimal fuss, drop a couple of denture cleaning tablets into the water and leave for fifteen to thirty minutes. Scrub the bowl with a toilet brush and then flush. If you do not have any denture cleaning tablets to hand, a liberal pouring of cola will have the same effect.

Other Bathroom Surfaces

Sometimes the simplest hacks can be the most satisfying. Here are a couple of final tricks to keep your bathroom looking its best:

Cleaning the toothbrush holder – One of the most unpleasant areas in the bathroom to clean can be the toothbrush holder. If your holder is made from a dishwasher safe material, run it through on a normal cycle to both sanitize the holder and get it sparkly clean.

Keeping the mirror clean – For a low effort way to keep the bathroom mirror clean and stop it from fogging up, cover the entire surface area of the mirror with soap. Immediately wipe it off with a damp cloth and you should find that the mirror now stays free of condensation when you have a bath or shower. The results should last for two to four weeks.

Cleaning a bathroom may not be enjoyable, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. These simple hacks will make your bathroom gleam.
